todd roeth, late may 08

Ok , so what did I learn from this portrait?
Well, I like it better and think the finished product is much more interesting if the subject is looking at or near me while I am painting. I spent 2 hours on this painting. I needed more time, but it was a great warm up. After all this is only the second piece in a long ( at least that is what I am thinking at this moment) involved project overall.
One of the best things about doing portraiture for me is the connection with the sitter. Although this is different because I don't have the eye connection in the finished painting. It was an enjoyable experience to hang out and enjoy Todd.
